About Gujarat Borosil Limited

  • Manufacturer of high quality solar glass, fully tempered with optional anti-reflective coating (production capacity – 1 GW) used in the manufacture of solar photo voltaic panels, flat plate collectors used as a part of a solar water heating system, and for greenhouses.
  • With a rating of 95.2% efficiency, its antimony-free solar glass has received the highest performance rating amongst the solar glasses tested by SPF Institute in Rapperswil, Switzerland.
  • First in the world to have discovered that Antimony, a deadly toxin used as an ingredient in the manufacture of solar glass, leaches out into water, like sugar from a candy stick.
  • First and only manufacturer in the world to have successfully made high-performance antimony free solar glass.
  • First in the world to have successfully made fully tempered 2mm solar glass. This enables the manufacture of glass/glass solar panels using bi-facial cells which are expected to yield 30% higher output from the module, and would have a life expectancy of 40 years. The excellent sealing possible with glass to glass allows specially made modules to be floated on suitable rafts in the sea providing power to islands.
  • Tests conducted by the PI Institute in Berlin show that solar glass from GBL has the lowest degradation amongst top solar glass manufacturers around the world.
  • GBL was Incorporated in 1988 with headquarters in Mumbai, and glass works in Vill. Govali, Taluka Jhagadia, Dist. Bharuch, Gujarat.
